Now I know this thought process isn’t new.
Slavery was not salvation. Slavery did not serve the purpose of saving anyone. It’s purpose is free labor and justifying it by dehumanizing the enslaved so polite society doesn’t feel bad about it. Found mention of my great-grandmother Mary Lizzie Allmond!
I found this blurb from The Smithfield Times in July 1946 that mentions my great grandmother. This is the only thing I’ve found other than her death certificate and her children’s obituaries that mention her. I found it while looking for something else. These are literally her parents (well, her father and stepmother) that this post is about. I saw … Continue reading Hollimans of Isle of Wight, Virginia
What happened to first names?

K J C Eley is Kennith John Cephas Eley and his father J J Eley is Jacob J. Eley. I still don’t know, even through subsequent census listings, the actual spelling of his mother’s name: Lou Adda, Lue_____ Addy. Continue reading What happened to first names?
Disowned Due To Fornication
I found this in Quaker records. I don’t know if this woman is connected to me but this was interesting. I couldn’t read some of it but I got the main point. “She has been guilty of fornication, on which account she was treated(?) with by a Committee of Womens Meeting, but she did not appear qualified to condemn her transgression. We therefore testify that … Continue reading Disowned Due To Fornication
